Tomato Seedling from VPCK and Pusa Ruby

Here i am sharing my experience with growing tomato..

1.Choose the variety depends on climate conditions .( relatively short duration vegetable crop)(The variety I choosed Pusa Ruby .It is an early growing cultivar, Maximum temperature for better growth and yield 29°C.

2. Sowing in seedling tray

Seedling tray growing media: Coco peat and Vermi compost The seedlings will emerge in 7-10 days. Keep them out of direct sunlight to avoid the leaves burning. Select the healthiest seedlings. After 4 weeks of sowing, transfer the plants larger pot .(This will help to develop more healthy roots), Add 2 gms of fine powdered eggshell this time. The plants will be ready for transplanting to final grow bag or pot after 7weeks Transplanting should be done in the afternoon, between 4 pm and 6pm)

3.Grow bag or pot potting mix

Sand,Cocopeat,Compost(2:1:1) + Poultry manure(Two handful)good for acid soils because it contains a lot of calcium + Ground nut cake powder (One handful) + Neem Cake(One handful) +Pseudomonas( 8 to 10gms, 2table spoon).

4.Watering :water the plants regularly, especially during flowering and fruit formation, Excess watering bring calcium deficiency.

5.Once again add compost and groundnut cake and 2gms of fine powdered egg shell before flowering.( Apply the fertilizers evening time)

6.Pruning : Improves the light penetration and air circulation. Prune the side shoots. Remove yellow foliage at the bottom of plant. I removed few tomato bearing branches of 4 tomato plants , the result was big tomatoes with that selected tomato plants.

7.Pest Control: Only powdery mildew attacked my tomato plants. High pressure water spraying helped me to keep this away. Daily monitoring of leaves and stem will save tomato plants from most of the pests and disease. Use organic pesticide only evening.
